On “Art as Impact”
From working in New York theaters like Manhattan Theatre Club to Hollywood production companies like Bad Robot Productions, my experiences have shown me that many of us in the arts and entertainment community are still searching for the perfect formula to make our creative work yield tangible societal change.
So that’s the question that motivates me:
What does “art as impact” actually look like?
I've explored this question through collaborations with artists, nonprofits, and production companies, crafting purpose-driven events, strategies, programs, and stories for Broadway, Off-Broadway, International Stages, and the screen. And, along the way, I've witnessed the incredible power of art to transcend boundaries, challenge perspectives, and bring people together.
But here's the thing: I now find myself at a turning point in my life and career where I’ve decided to fully embrace this intersection of art, entertainment, and social impact and commit to the process of discovering which hat(s) to wear next.
So, what does art as impact look like for me?
At minimum, it’s a beautiful fusion of
the stories we tell and how we tell them;
the people we collaborate with;
the audiences we reach;
the community partnerships we nurture;
and the experiences we curate for a viewer before, during, and after they experience the art.
It’s about creating a holistic experience that lingers, moves, and inspires long after the curtains close.
But this is just the beginning.
